This workshop is designed for choral educators working with grades 5-12 who are looking for ways to integrate world music into their curriculum meaningfully. We’ll look in detail at music from Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe/Eurasia, and South and East Asia. The packets of choral scores and arrangements from each of these regions — voiced primarily for equal-voiced or mixed ensembles in 2 or 3 parts, with some 4-part scores included — will be presented with background information on original setting, cultural context, language and pronunciation resources. Through performance, listening, presentations and workshops with leaders of guest ensembles, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the roots of this music to pass along to their students.
Workshop registration: $250 (includes lunches, concerts, 6 reading packets, and 16 SCECH continuing education hours)
Overnight housing available for $25/night
