Is it just me, or does it seem like our Fall Convention gets better every year?
Our inspiring headliners, Dr. Jefferson Johnson from University of Kentucky, Dr. Mary Hopper from Wheaton College, and Ryan Kelly, director of the Holland Chorale, gave us practical and clever ideas to put into practice immediately upon our return!
It is hard to believe the over-the-top performances that so delighted us were happening before Halloween! Most of us would be thrilled to have our choirs achieve this level at state choral festival!
Our undergraduate and graduate conductors dazzled us with their poise, skill, and willingness to submit to constructive scrutiny for the benefit of all.
The repertoire gems handed to us by Dr. Michael Mitchell and Helen Hawley were gratefully accepted, and we were proud to recognize our 2011 Maynard Klein Award recipient, Dr. Milton Olsson, for all that he has done for the UP and our entire state.
The frosting on the cake was an incredible concert by the incomparable Cantus, who reveled in the adulation of a crowd that “gets it!”
Many thanks to Deborah Fristad and all those she mentions in her President’s Message, who made this superb convention possible!
