Greetings everyone!
I hope the fall is bringing you much joy and great music making. It’s time to organize the ACDA Women’s Commission Consortium for 2012. The consortium’s last commissioning effort is in progress and we have received one out of three pieces that will be supported by the commission. Jocelyn Hagen’s piece, Moon Goddess, was just sent on the 2011 members. The other two pieces (by Sidney Guillaume and Shawn Kirchner) will be coming in January.
Here are a few of the pertinent facts and reminders of the Women’s Commission Consortium.
Purpose: To give women’s choirs an affordable opportunity to participate in the commissioning process and to encourage new compositions for women’s choirs.
Cost: Choirs will contribute $250, payable to ACDA. Choirs that have the ability to pay more are encouraged, but not required, to do so.
Procedure: Members of the consortium will submit names of composers whose work they know and can recommend. A list of names will be submitted to the whole group for a vote. If necessary, a second vote will be held to determine the top candidates. I will contact the top composers and inquire as to their fee and whether they are interested in working with the consortium.
Completion: Upon completion of the commission, each choir and director will receive a copy of the manuscript with the rights to copy for their own choir’s premier performance. Each choir and conductor will be listed in the score of the composition as well as on our ACDA Women’s Choir Website.
I hope you will join us in this exciting endeavor. Please contact me at irislevine@mac.com no later than NOVEMBER 1st if you are interested in participating. I also am interested to know if you would like to pursue the possibility of multiple works (as has been in the past) or one multi-movement piece.
Once I have compiled your responses, I will ask for suggestions of composers, so please be thinking. Invoices will be sent after I get confirmation from those participating.
Thank you for your support of women’s choruses, women’s choral music and all that encompasses that…
Sincerely,
Iris
