    Ashleigh MillerAshleigh N. Miller is a May 2011 graduate of Central Michigan University (B.M.E.), double majoring in choral education and English education. She is currently applying for her first teaching position and will remain in the state of Michigan.

    Miss Miller has been an active member of the ACDA-MI State Board since 2007 where she has held the position of Student Representative, a position created specifically for her and unique to only the ACDA-MI chapter. In addition to membership in ACDA, she is a current member of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA), the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and the Michigan Council of Teachers of English (MCTE). She is also former President of the CMU chapter of ACDA, and alumnae and former President of the Eta Xi chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.

    Her columns in the Bella Voce ("College Corner" and "Methods for Student Teaching and Research") are written specifically for college students, and are the only articles of their kind in ACDA.

    John Bragle (Interlochen Arts Academy) - Northern Lower Area Representative

    John BragleJOHN BRAGLE is the conductor of the Interlochen Arts Academy Choir and Chamber Singers, instructor of voice, and on the choral faculty at Interlochen Arts Camp. He is a cum laude graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor degree in music education and also received a master’s degree in choral conducting from MSU. Previously, he was director of choirs for Williamston Community Schools, where under his direction the program increased significantly in size and prominence within the state of Michigan.

    Mr. Bragle has also served as visiting professor of music at Northwest Michigan College, director of the Michigan State University Youth Treble Ensemble, director of the Michigan State University Men’s Glee Club, director of choirs at St. Thomas Church in East Lansing and musical director of the Accafellas; an eight member award-winning ensemble based at Michigan State University. Mr. Bragle maintains an active performing career in concert and recital. His conducting studies have been with Charles Smith, David Rayl and Jonathan Reed, and voice studies with Richard Fracker and Robert Bracey.

    Ellen Pool (Grand Valley State University) - Southwest Lower Area Representative

    Ellen PoolEllen Pool, Director of Choral Activities at GVSU, studied with Maynard Klein at the University of Michigan where she received M. M. and B. M. degrees in choral music education. She had additional advanced choral conducting study with Donald Neuen at Eastman School of Music. In addition to conducting University Arts Chorale, the Select Women’s Ensemble and Cantate Chamber Ensemble and coordinating the choral program, Professor Pool teaches undergraduate and graduate choral conducting classes. Pool was selected as SSAA State Honors Choir conductor in 2005 for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association. Active as an adjudicator and clinician, Professor Pool is a member of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association in addition to serving on the ACDA State Board.

    Matthew T. Snell (Northwest High School) - South Central Lower Area Representative

    Matthew SnellMatthew T. Snell is currently starting his fourth year of teaching at Northwest High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University in 2008. While at WMU, he was awarded the Michael Schubeck and Nancy Monsour College of Fine Arts Distinguished Student Award and the Beulah and Harold McKee Scholarship. He studied private voice with Carl Ratner and Choral Conducting with Joe Miller.

    Prior to working at Northwest, Mr. Snell, was choral director at Portage United Church of Christ. He has enjoyed teaching in the Northwest Community for the past three years and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their wonderful support.

    Matthew Snell has written two articles, "Successful Sight-Singing Techniques"  and "Successful Repertoire: And Ain't I  a Woman!", which can be found in Bella Voce, elsewhere on this site.

    John TynerJohn C. Tyner joined the Monroe Public Schools faculty in 1976, retiring in 2005 as the Coordinator of K-12 Music Education. He holds degrees from Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University, where he was Associate Conductor of the Choral Union, with further studies at Michigan State University and The University of Michigan.

    His school groups consistently received superior ratings at district, state and national events and appeared at the Midwest Music Educators Conference and the Michigan Youth Arts Festival several times.

    Mr. Tyner is currently Director of Music at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Monroe and the Director of Choral Activities at Monroe County Community College. In conjunction with the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, John, presents each year a community wide presentation of G.F. Handel’s "Messiah". He formerly conducted the Monroe Youth Chorale and Monroe Youth Orchestra. He has been active in both the Michigan School Vocal Music Association and the American Choral Directors Association holding various positions on the boards of both organizations. He is an active adjudicator and clinician throughout the region.

    He was elected by his colleagues as the Michigan School Vocal Music Teacher of the Year, the Michigan Music Educator's Teacher of the Year, and has been selected to the Who’s Who of American Teachers eleven times. He conducted the 1984 TTBB State Honors Choir the 1997 SATB State Honors Choir and the 2004 State Junior High/Middle School SATB Choir. Additionally, he was awarded the Michigan Administrator of the year award for 2000 by the Michigan Music Educators Association and recognized as an Accomplished Music Educator by the Music Educators National Conference in 2001and in 2008 was awarded the prestigious Maynard Klein award from the Michigan Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.

    He and his wife Catherine have two children, Matthew (Molly) and Sara (Steve); three grandsons, Orion, Harrison, Emmett; and two granddaughters, Josie and Marilyn.
