Susan Catanese serves ACDA-MI as R & S Chair of Community Choirs. Susan earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Aquinas College and a Master of Music Education from the University of Michigan. She has been elected Teacher of the Year (MSVMA 1997), Outstanding High School Educator of the Year (Macomb County 2006) and received the Award of Excellence (Dakota HS 2010). In Susan’s 35-year teaching career, her students consistently earned superior ratings at district and state festivals, and her groups and soloists performed at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Susan is currently the director of metropolitan Detroit’s prestigious Cantata Academy Chorale. Susan has been elected by her peers to conduct three state honors choirs (1993, 2000 and 2013). She serves on the Full Board of the American Choral Directors Association, adjudicates for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association, and teaches private voice and piano.

The mission and purpose of the Community Chorus section is to provide a vehicle of communication from the board of directors to the membership. Repertoire and Standards committee chairs are required to contribute one article per year, due in September, as part of their responsibilities. We encourage out membership to submit news and articles of interest to the Community Chorus Chairman - See R&S Board Directory »
